Freemasonic Enlightenment in the Context

of the Modern and Perfecting Rite of Symbolic Masonry

Newcastle Upon Tyne: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2023

ISBN/10:  1-5275-9207-3 and ISBN/13:  978-1-5275-9207-0

This book details a philosophical approach to Freemasonry and a Freemasonic approach to philosophy. It provides a system of esoteric work, interdisciplinary education, philosophical reflection, and social and political thought, and a method of understanding the reality of the world and the reality of consciousness. The actual state of Freemasonry is overtaken by inherent old conceptions, but this book looks to take Freemasonry from where it is to where it has never been. Thus, it exposes the Ritual of the “Modern and Perfecting Rite of Symbolic Masonry,” composed by the author, and it explains the ethos, the structure, and the substantive content of the Autonomous Order of the Modern and Perfecting Rite of Symbolic Masonry, of which the author is the Founder and Grand Master. The book expresses a keen longing for unifying, all-embracing knowledge and for instituting a Freemasonic system that creates, unites, and supports polymaths for the sake of knowledge and a better world order. As such, it presents a creative synthesis between Western esotericism, philosophy, psychoanalysis, sociology, political theory, political economy, mathematics, physics, and biology.

Dr. Nicolas Laos was born in Athens, Greece, on 2 July 1974, he was intellectually masculinized in the context of America’s liberal education system (he matriculated at the University of La Verne, California, in 1992), and he expanded his intellectual horizons in several scholarly and business institutions around the world. He is rigorously educated and internationally published in mathematics, philosophy, political economy, and social psychology. His way of thinking is characterized by a peculiar grand synthesis of rationalism (Descartes, Kant, Bachelard, etc.), structuralism (Durkheim, Saussure, Lévi-Strauss, etc.), the “school” of hermeneutics (Gadamer), Marxism–Leninism, Alexander Bogdanov’s universal science of organization (“Tektology”), Anatoly Lunacharsky’s theory of “God-Building,” mathematical modelling, Norbert Wiener’s and Aksel Berg’s cybernetics, and the psychoanalytical “schools” of S. Freud, J. Lacan, and E. Fromm. On the basis of the aforementioned synthesis, Dr. Laos has articulated the theory of the “dialectic of rational dynamicity” as well as the theory of “critical rational socialism” (a morally aristocratic and scientifically rigorous variant of socialism). Moreover, he has an extensive international background in Freemasonry and, generally, Western esotericism. He is the creator of the Modern and Perfecting Rite of Symbolic Masonry (in Greek, “Νεωτερικός και Τελεσιουργικός Τύπος του Συμβολικού Τεκτονισμού”). At the beginning of his book Freemasonic Enlightenment in the Context of the Modern and Perfecting Rite of Symbolic Masonry, he explains how his scholarly and Freemasonic qualifications gave him courage and the substantive and formal legitimacy to undertake the bold intellectual project that is the subject of this book.

Dr. Nicolas Laos has created a new Freemasonry ― namely, the Modern and Perfecting Rite of Symbolic Masonry ― guided by his systematic, philosophical and scientific engagement with fundamental questions such as: What is being, and what is the reason of being? How can we study the whole as a whole? How does the cosmos unfold? What are the dynamics of thought, and which are the fundamental laws of thought? He is proud to be known to his peers and interested parties as the founder of “Scientific Freemasonry” and as a person who experiences thinking as a supreme source of joy. The Autonomous Order of the Modern and Perfecting Rite of Symbolic Masonry is a philosophical and scientific fraternity that, in addition to studying and defending modernity, seeks to develop modernity further and lead it to its logical conclusion and integration, in accordance with this Order’s research program.
